What key do folks play this in?

I really like this tune, but there's no way I could play it in F up to speed on my keyless flute... does anyone play it in G in sessions?

# Posted on November 22nd 2005 by Q

In G

Yep, I play this one in G in the sessions. pretty much as lunasa play it. It wouldn't be too friendly on my pipes otherwise.

G?

Yeah, G is more common. Though I always relish a chance to play it if F if there are no flutes or pipes around. It really is loads better in F on the fiddle. Partly because you can roll the high third (A, when in F) on the fiddle. Pipes and flutes obviously have no problem rolling their top B

I duplicated this tune by accident here and it includes an mp3 of Kevin playing it at a workshop. Jeremy might delete that submission so here's a link to the mp3: http://www.tipsyhouse.com/Peoplestune.mp3

COMMENT:

Peoples Tune

This comes off of a CD that Brad Hurley sent me containing a famous session tape from Gort in 1991. Brad added some tracks at the end that feature Kevin Crawford conducting a workshop that usually involves sitting and listening in amazement as he plays. Someone had the good sense to switch a tape recorder on and capture this tune that I've never heard anywhere else. If someone has a name other than what Kevin referred to it as, please elucidate.

Here's a link to an mp3 I made of the tune:
