Isn't this tune title referring to some guy named Cornelius who everyone joked about going after the girls -- the tune title being a warning? I think it was George Keith told me that, but I could be wrong.

Cornelius O'Brien was a notorious landlord in Co. Clare, and is said to have taken the right on to himself to sleep with newly wed brides on the first night.Hence the title...

...is the title for the original Scottish version of the tune. Simon Thoumire and Eilidh Shaw recorded a great version citing Bremner's Collection (1761).
