Highland President

This is an edited version of the tune of the same name in Andrew Kuntz's Fiddler's Companion. I heard it recently on a Radio Scotland programme called 'The Reel Blend' and it sounded more like the version I have enterd here. I think it was by Nathanial Gow, certainly by one of them and is in Bb.

Highland President

This is such a cool tune! It's looks like a difficult one to play though. I imagine It would take me a little while to learn to play it.

Highland president composer

Hi,

It is called the Highland president. I have it in a book or 2.
One is the gow repositories and the other is a complitation book of tunes from the time of gow.

Its a slow strathspey written by george jenkins around the time of gow and marshall

It was played quite a lot in the late 80's early 90's as a competion strathspey on the scottish accordion circuit. It should be play quite slow, however if your fingers will take you and put a bit of practice in, it is fantastic as an uptempo strathspey and really does show off your technique, however, in doing this, it does lose a little of its appeal and heart. But well worth the effort in learning it. It is one of my favourite Strathspeys along with dean brig of edinburgh and john stephen of chance in....

happy playing - practice hard - play well :-)

regards

Frazer
