"Lovely Lough Sheelin" ~ another lovely tune by Ed Reavy
Lough Sheelin is in County Cavan.
Does anyone have any tales about the Reavys and their County Cavan roots?

"Lovely Lough Sheelin"- whistle & flute?
Just played the fling version through; maybe something like | E2 GE AEcE | for the second bar of the first part for whistle & flute instead of dropping down to the next octave?

Highland Fling it is ~
It is a highland fling, but the nearest close relative, and very close, is the strathspey category on site here. The form tends to be filed under either strathspeys or barndances, and I've done it both ways. Some get filed under their alternate use as a reel, sometimes single, sometimes doubled...

Re: tales of Ed Reavy, the legend...Go to the Reavy Foundation sites. There is a wealth of info regarding the story of the man and his music available thanks to Mick Moloney and his sons', Ed and Joe. It is truly fascinating how he composed so many unique tunes, 500 or so.
I just had lunch with Ed Reavy, the son, and his wife last week at the Sligo Pub, in Media, PA. Every time I see Ed, now 83 years old, I hear another story about his father and get more advice on which tunes I should learn. I'm sure there is not enough room here...I'd have to write a book. Maybe I will!
