Garry Kennedy's Delight (as recorded by Celtic Tradition in 1984)
This tune was recorded by the group Celtic Tradition (feat. Noel McLoughlin):
). The recording has apparently never been released on a CD (even the vinyl LP was not easy to find). It seems that the group has had little or no commercial success. Which is a pitty, as this is one of my favourite recordings of Irish music!
LP Celtic Tradition "I Have Waited for Many a Night and Day", released in 1984 by Maske Music GmbH, Germany.
It appears as a set of reels entitled "Easter Sunday/Garrykennedy's Delight" (spelling exactly as printed). However, Easter Sunday is the *second* tune of the set, so I assume "Garrykennedy's Delight" applies to the first one, which I submit here (I allowed myself to separate "Garry" and "Kennedy's"). Both tunes are indicated as traditional.
I couldn't find any info about this group (imagine googling "celtic tradition"

Garrykennedy
Garrykennedy is a place in Tipperary and the tune "Garrykennedy Castle" was a composition by the Late Paddy O'Brien from Nenagh. I wouldn't know about this tune though but the name seems to be a bit of a coincidence and it might be another of Paddy's.

The pub in Garrykennedy was where POB played in the sessions - Larkins:

Beautiful spot right on the banks of Lough Derg on the River Shannon.

Just from playing the dots (hope Michael isn't reading) it doesn;t sound to me like any other of POB's compositions. That's not to say it couldn't be - just a gut feeling.

Garrykennedy
You're probably safe enough here Donough as it's an area I wouldn't think Michael visits very often - too many new compositions here to upset him! On the question of the melody, I'll have to wait for Jeremy to upload the dots as I find ABCs difficult to read.

Garrykennedy, County Tipperary & beautiful Lough Derg & the River Shannin

There was a pub there that Paddy O'Brien used to frequent, and I've had the pleasure, too few times, to enjoy music and dance there while Paddy was still the main squeeze...

Larkin's ~
Donough & Bannerman ~ Larkins, yes, I thought that was it but wasn't sure, it's been that long.

Sorry, I was away and had left this page showing on the computer while it was undergoing its weekly scans... We took off and just got in and I added comment without refreshing the page...
Maybe this is in reference to the sports figure Gerry Kennedy?

Sorry about the mess. My transcription was generated from a MIDI file by a software.
On the LP sleeve it stays as "Garrykennedy's Delight". Could be a reference to the place indeed. Actually, I'd try to contact Noel McLoughlin himself, but he seems impossible to find, too. No official website or whatever.
It stays indicated as traditional. I intend to record it, so the question of the copyright is important.

I suspected it was a software splat. Some of the ABC software throws up ABC notation like vomit, identifiable pieces but a mess... Yeah, so you had a Vindaloo and ~ there were raisins in it...
If I had the recording I'd send you a clearer transcription... It helps to know and understand ABC notation longhand, also because some software is dated and temperamental, even though ABC notation predates the software and computers, including the simpler forward slash / rather than /2, which indicate the same thing, the halving in time value of the note before it...

I have done a little checking of what I have of Paddy O'Brien's compositions but haven't found anything resembling this as yet...

Paddy O'Brien tune
There is another G reel in the data base that is titled The Primrose Lasses and is sub-titled Patrick's Night. I have never heard Primrose Lasses called by any other name. It is a lovely tune but has little relation to this tune.
This Patrick's Night is the reel composed by Nenagh's Paddy O'Brien, and is played by Kitty Hayes, among many others. It is similar is many ways to Touch Me If You Dare and is often played in the same set, the theory being that tunes that are similar should be played back-to-back to keep the differences in mind.
