Another

Another from Sam Bayard's "Dance to the Fiddle March to the Fife."

I have never heard this tune outside of finding it in the book.
The tune was collected from all fiddlers (no fifers) and went ny this title or as:

BIG FAT GAL'S GOOD I KNOW, BUT A LITTLE FAT GAL'S BETTER O!

Linsey Back was an interesting title to me and there was no explanation of it in the book. After searching around a little I am pretty sure it refers to "Linsey Wooly" (sometimes "wincey") which was a common material for clothing, mostly among the lower classes in the 1700s Europe and The USA as well. So "Linsey Back" is referring to someone who may be poor or lower class. And maybe not even in a derogatory way as sometimes people refer to themselves as "hillbilly" ir "redneck" in a positve way.

Anyway...

Its a great tune and for me, another example of the "lost" Irish/Scottish musical heritage that was evident in the region's music up until the 1960's before it all disappeared due to the ways of bluegrass and southern "oldtime" stringbands.

Lovely Tune

Lovely tune MH. I've just come back from a week in Pembrokeshire and it's given me much pleasure to play. After all it's been a week without music. My longstanding Scottish friend and fellow musician who plays in our band will, I'm sure, enjoy the experience also.
