About this piece...

This was written to commemorate the furry little creatures that scamper, dash, and frolic on the campus of Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia.

C: Alyssa Hughes

Welcome oh newly arrived budding composer... While may do, try not to forget to check out the FAQs here ~

Can I submit my own compositions?

Well... The Session isn't really intended for that. If you do post one of your own compositions, then you must do your "penance", so to speak, by balancing each original composition with about five trad tunes.

Welcome to the yeller board, I hope you enjoy your visits... ;-)

The keyboard and my fingers sometimes miss bits ~ "While may do ~" should have read "While many do ~"

We have had floods of the self-composed, sometimes like 'Montezuma's Revenge', if you know what I mean... :-/

Ceolachan,

Thanks for the reference! Obviously I'm fairly new to The Session, but thanks for the warm welcome :-)

In a few days then, I suppose, I plan on submitting about 20+ traditional tunes because lately I've been having so much inspiration for writing lovely melodies :-)

I hope you liked this jig...

Originals

All music was once new, even traditional tunes...

I write tunes rather frequently (being a classical composer in real life - don't hold it against me...) and probably end up with one or two a month that I consider good. I will usually trot those out at a local session in a quiet moment to get some feedback. Sometimes they even catch on. The few original tunes that I have posted here are the ones friends and colleagues have requested I submit so that they can share them with other people.

I have been fortunate enough to sit in on a session 800 miles from where I live and have the folks break into one of my tunes in the middle of a set. I hold that experience dearer than any successes I have had with my choral and orchestral music.

I absolutely love this tune of yours! I must say, one of the best sections of this jig to play is measures 11 and 12- it is so satisfying to ornament the tied over g, it sounds wonderful with a short or long roll (my favorite ornamentation other than the slide and finger vibrato, which you have left ample room for in certain areas of the tune as well!!!). Also, the chord progressions in the 2nd ending are so gratifying-I'd love to hear this tune played on a piano perhaps! I'm sure it would be splendid! :)
Your talent is tremendous, I can't wait to play more of your tunes!!!
