The Rising Sun

This is a popular old tune and I base my version loosely on the playing of Jackie Daly (album: Music from Sliabh Luachra.) It is a first cousin of The Old Blackthorn but definitely, in my opinion, a different tune. There are a few variations in my head at the moment and I'm not entirely sure where they come from but I'll post them in the next comment.

Micho Russell

Micho recorded a fairly different version of this tune. It practically stands out on its own from this tune and might deserve a separate place in the tunes section. If I get the chance over the weekend (IF!) I'll post it here and see if you members think it worthy of a separate entry.

I love Micho's take on this, on anything, I look forward to that transcription too...

I have Micho's writte ndown soemwhere, it's in turn a version of 'The Master's Return' which Paddy Killoran brought to Clare in 1958 (although Micho had it from older players in his own area) and so named by Seamusennis in honour of Killoran's visit

I never realized thats where the name came from. It has often been called just "Paddy Killoran's" too and its great to finally know the connection.

By the way, I think O'Neill's 1001 has another take on this tune too. I see if I can dig it up.
