The Shapron

"Shapron" is an old (18th century) spelling of "Chaperon".

I believe the tune to be of English origin - possibly from the north-east.

I would classify it as being a "rant" tune, but as thesession doesn't list "rant" as tune-type, I've submitted it as a reel.

It goes very well with that old war horse, "Soldier's Joy".

It looks like you've put the bar lines one place too far to the left. I think it should be like this:

The Shapron - Anacrusis

Thanks, granama, for pointing this out. You are absolutely right, of course! I quite annoyed with myself for having made this mistake.

I've corrected my abc posting but (as you no doubt know), such corrections to the abc are never reflected with a correction to the "Sheetmusic", so unfortunately there is nothing that I can do about that.

Swing and losts of triplets...

is what it makes me want to do.

The shapron

glad to see someone is paying attention!
I've checked my pencilled notation from William Winter's original manuscript and there is indeed an anacrusis ( F# E ) to the value of a crotchet!
When I researched the Winter manuscript , I could find no tune of this name in the V Williams library at C# house-- if you know any other sources - please post the info !
