This tune will bring tears to the eyes of the thickest skinned of bodhrán players. I got this setting from concertina player Micheál Ó Raghallaigh. Strange title - perhaps it means something different in Irish. I first heard the tune (probably a slightly different setting - I can't remember) from fiddler Caoihmín Ó Raghallaigh (no relation, as far as I am aware), who called it a 3-part version of The Hag With The Money.

Don't rush it. This is not a tune to be wasted on ceilidh bands.

Spórt

In Irish, the word "Spórt" basically means "fun" so I guess it's not such an unusual title for this fun little jig.

Composer: Peadar O'Riada

I originally learnt a variation of this tune from Irish harper Michael Rooney; however accoring to Michael O Raghallaigh on his fabulous CD "The Nervous Man", this tune was composed by Irishman Peadar O Riada. Regardless of it's origin, it is a fabulous tune! :)

Origins of Tune

A great tune indead. I heard that the composer was watching children play and based the tune on that-makes sense when you hear the tune.

This is the way Altan play it on their album Local Ground Altan... I think.
