Light And Airy

I first heard this very simple hop jig played by our very own llig leachim, and just assumed that I'd probably never hear it in a session, since it's a bit obscure, despite its appearance in O'Neill's. But then I started hearing it played regularly by a piper at my local session, and recognised it as the same tune, so I picked it up so I could play it with him. It's not the same tune as the jig by the same name already on the database. I like the D#s.

Modal version?

I've heard this tune performed using the mixolydian C-naturals instead of the D Major C-sharps. Would this be a different tune, or just a different version of this tune?

Which mode, pb?

Hi, pb... Dow's version is posted as A mix, which means using C nats instead would be A dorian, so I'm not sure what you meant. Do you end the tune on A or another note? Also, does your version use the B part D sharps like Dow's?

Yes, it'd work nicely with C nats too.

Sorry, I'm a moron

muspc, you're right, Dow did this in A-mix, and for some reason I read it wrong. Having said all that, I have seen this also in A major with the G-sharps. Personally, I don't like it that way at all, much preferring this A-mix version.

Not a moron at all!

pb, I certainly didn't mean to imply any such thing! So, please do forgive me if my post came across like that at all! I'm very interested in differing modal versions of tunes and I was just trying to understand what you meant. I've tried with the G sharps and agree that that way is not as compelling.
