Comments I was sure to add . . .

I transcribed this reel from John Whelan's CD "From The Heart" The liner notes say:

"One late October night in 1979, Dublin tenor banjo player Mick Kenny wrote the first reel together at Tommy Moran's Broadstone Inn in the Bronx, New York."

It's also on one of his later CDs.

Not the Bronx

John's sense of NYC geography was not finely tuned when he wrote those notes. The Broadstone Inn was on 207th Street in Inwood, the northernmost neighborhood in Manhattan. The owner, the late Tommy Moran, was a great supporter of Gaelic football, especially the Longford team, and of Comhaltas. His bar was always open for a session and he often hosted all-night gatherings where he gave away more drink than he sold. I remember a great one in 1982 with the Comhaltas tour musicians, including Joe Burke and Maire Ni Chathasaigh. This tune was a great tribute to Tommy, who deserved one.
