Do you know this tune?
I know this melody from a German song by Hannes Wader (entitled "Alle Hügel") - it's not a waltz really but an air I suppose - and I have once heard an instrumental version of it on the radio in Ireland. I think it sounds like there must be traditional Irish words to it, but I can't seem to find out anything about this tune other than that Wader supposedly took it from Steeleye Span or someone affiliated with them.
Does anyone know what this tune was originally called, or if it has lyrics?

"Alle Hügel"
There may be a copright problem here - I did a search and found the song sung by Hannes Wader in German on a website, and was then informed that since I was not resident within the USA I could not gain further access.
Anyway, "Alle Hügel" means "every hill" or "all the hills", a phrase that occurs a few times in the Old Testament.

The melody souds like that used for a song about the First World War. It itself used the tune used for the much earlier song called 'The False Bride'

Apparently Wader recorded Alle Hügel in 1995. The song is credited to Tim Hart and Maddy Prior and was adapted by guitarist Klaus Weiland.
