Evit Gabriel ("For Gabriel" in Breton) was written by Daniel Thonon, a musician and composer who was born in Brussels in 1949 and emigrated to Canada in 1963, where he still resides. He plays a variety of instruments, primarily diatonic accordion and hurdy-gurdy. He's also an instrument builder, composer, etc.

Our session plays this tune at a fairly slow, hypnotic pace but it gets played at the local ceilis at a more typical reel pace as well.
It seems to get paired with the Bus Stop Reel and/or Dinky's Reel. Around here we play it with St. Anne's, but I'm not sure where that combo originated.
