Ailiú Eanái

I'm very curious about this tune that I first encountered years ago in the basic instructional tunes at the beginning of "Geraldine Cotter's Traditional Irish Whistle Tutor". Perhaps The native Irish wonks here could illuminate me and others about the history/source of this simple but lovely melody? Is it a childrens' lullaby, or iso common that nobody has considered it worthy of posting to the Sesh?

The transcription provided is not Cotter's (hers all crochets/quarter notes for the beginners) but rather an estimation of the Áine Minogue's "Mists of Time" recording, minus instrumental lead-ins and -outs.

Chords (apologies to accompanists who will have differing opinions) are my ear's first take on those of the Minogue recording and are offered only as a suggestion.

Slow Airs

I acknowledge that slow airs are not generally posted to the Session because their playing, and thus their transcription, becomes subjective to the idiosyncracies and contexts of individual players. In this post, I'm just looking for historical or other information about this published and recorded melody.

Slow Airs & Song Airs & Airs in general 8-)

Yes, slow airs and song airs are posted here, but Jeremy doesn't let the category survive as part of the title... there ar tons on site...if mostly given in the simplest of forms...
