Montgomerie's Maggot

This is an arrangement of mine which I published in The Border Bagpipe Book in 1993, now out of print. It came up as a topic on the bobdunsire.com piping forum when people started requesting the sheet music after the tune had been played on a youtube clip.

Though the basic tune is traditional (parts 1,2 and 7) the arrangement is ©Matt Seattle. It's not everyone's cup of tea, as you do need some free attention to keep the overall pattern in mind, but for those who enjoy a challenge... feel free to play it etc. but for commercial recordings please give due credit.

NB The syncopation is in the original, as is the fast note cluster near the end.

Re: Montgomerie's Maggot

Cool! Thank you for sharing this, Matt. Love the syncopation. Do you know the story behind the title?

Title

It's equivalent to "Montgomerie's Fancy" or his "Delight" or "Favourite" and has nothing to do with grubs or larvae.

Maggots

To comment irrevelently on the tune - someone wrote a dance with the lovely title 'Granny Smith's Maggot'
