I might hazard a guess that this is Scottish

Where did you get it from KH?

Ok

I had to go back and look at some things. This is my arrangement of the USA Bummer's reel which happens to be like many of the versions collected in Pennsylvania way back in de olden days of yore. I'm still working out something close to what I posted here on the fiddle.

The Fiddler's Companion has an ABC from Andrew Kuntz:

Many tunes

Many tunes have similar characteristics like Levantne's Barrel.

At first I didn't hear the similarities between this and Levantine's, but now I do. The fiddlers Companion lists many possible variants/sources of the tune family... The Tullamore Piper, The Cows a Milking... Levantine's. The Pennsylvania versions are more straight and reel like without the accidentals of Levantines and (like many mid-appalachian tunes of old) it has more of a Scottish/Irish way about it rather than a swingy barrel of beer way about it.

Duplication

Really, with "c"s Levantine's and all of the good info there, this merely another duplication.

;-) ~ hmmmmm...

I wouldn't think so, despite the family resemblance. I think it is significantly different and deserves to stand here on its own, in its own space, don't you?

Yea

Why not. Lets give the Bum a break.

Is this your new persona for Lent MO'H? :-/

# Posted on February 6th 2008 by ceolachan

Yup

Giving it all up and letting it all out for lent.

Bummer’s Reel

Here's a recording of Bummer's Reel by 1954 World Champion Fiddler Jehile Kirkhuff. Sheet music close to this version is in a tune book called the "Ithaca Book". A fine tune! www.jehile.com under B tunes. or

Jehile

He had some great tunes! Fiddlers would do themselves good to study up on his music. So many people misunderstand the more Northernly traditions of fiddling in the USA. Its been a while since I listened to him. Thanks for the reminder.
