This tune is (for once) both traditional and Irish. I learnt it from Nollaig Casey at Meitheal Summer School in Limerick this year. She taught us it together with The Yellow Wattle, and I'm sure she told us the name of this one, but, try as I might, I cannot remember it.

Joe, the ABCs don't seem to translate.

Commas before the letter, not after it...for starters... It's that damned vinegar!

A,B,C ~
In other words, the commas, to drop it down an octave, come after the letter...
G, A, B, C D E F G A B c d e f g a b c' d' ~

The 'nameless' ~
I have this sneaking suspicion that it may already be here but right now I'm too shot and tired to chase it up. Maybe slainte or someone else will?

Thanks, but I'm sure it said in the FAQs that the commas come before. I've changed it anyway, though, in deference to your seemingly infinite knowledge and zeal for ABC notation.
If it is already up here, I will be REALLY annoyed. I checked and double-checked, I think I even triple-checked, to make sure it wasn't, and if it is, it will be like the 4th or 5th time it has happened. And if it is here, I'm sure my version's better, anyway.

A, B, C D E F G ~ A B c d e f g ~ a b c' d' e' f' g' ~ now I know my ABCs? ~ Nah!
http://www.lesession.co.uk/
http://www.lesession.co.uk/abc/abc_notation.htm#notes
http://www.lesession.co.uk/abc/noterange.htm
The next octave up is shown by an apostrophe immediately after the note name, like
c’
So our scale now runs two octaves from middle C:
CDEFGABcdefgabc’
And using the apostrophe to denote the upper octave we can extend our scale further :
CDEFGABcdefgabc’d’e’f’g’a’b’
But what about the B immediately below middle C? That octave is shown by a comma immediately following the note name, eg
B,
We now have four octaves at our disposal, which is more than enough for our purposes of notating traditional music:
C,D,E,F,G,A,B,CDEFGABcdefgabc'd'e'f'g'a'b'
but note that the range can be extended further by adding more commas or apostrophes.

C'''''' ~ out of the range of human hearing!
Just a minor point Joe-C, stacking the bars in 4-bar phrases is general practice, as you'll see I've given your transcription above. At least you do the note groupings as for jigs, generally in groups 3s and not all bunched together as some few others do ~ A,B,C & D2 E (with the space!) ~ good practice.
And no, you don't need to do as I do on other things, like 'space' either side of the bar line, which is just something some folks like, as it makes the ABCs a little easier to read and doesn't bother any of the conversion-to-dots or midi software.

B-part, 6th bar ~ | ed^c Ad=c | ~
That's how I take it... But ~ nice transcription and tune Joe-C... I'm still semi-conscious this morning, no caffeine in my blood yet, so haven't checked for the pre-existence of this. What drives me more round the twist is wanting the 'name' to pop out. I keep shaking my head, dancing, knockin' my noggin' ~ but nothing but pain so far... I think I'll go make an espresso now and see if kindness works...

"Twins On A Swing" ~ her own composition ~ ??

track 10.) "The Yellow Wattle" / "Twins On A Swing"
I haven't this album and haven't found an accessible transcription or MP3 of the tune, so can't say for sure... But, a transcription for it isn't here as far as I have been able to tell. It does ring bells, but it may be that it is just similar to something else. 'slainte / Hiro is the one for making those connections...

Joe-C ~ espresso and fresh air revived ~ and trying alternate barring?
First your transcription with the bars shifted over, then the same basic take in E Dorian, which is where it becomes more familiar, but to half a dozen different jigs, so I'm still curious to see what others make of it... The A-part fits that well, but the B-part does seem to want to press back a beat to as you give it...
