The second tune is "Across the Black River" http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/5114

it would be a nice touch to credit the composer, Vincent Broderick, as Kevin Burke does in his introduction to the tunes in the Youtube video.

As far as I know, there's no train station in Loughrea. The tune might go well with The Seanamhac Tube Station.

Vincent Broderick, Credit

Sorry not to credit Vincent Broderick, Thanks Gary for him.

The Loughrea station existed from 1890 until the last train from Loughrea left in 1975 then the station closed, according to data on this site. http://railscot.co.uk/Ireland/statement.htm

Sounds like the tune might have been written to commemorate the closing of the station.

The foolishness of the past ~ decomissioning railtrack

Yes, 'the last train'...

This has been something that has been decried for a long time, the loss of railtrack in Eire/Ireland... This includes what happened to Dublin. They closed down track, people claimed the areas for their own, encroached on what had been previously national land, and now the damned city is hell as far as traffic. No politician has had the nerve to claim it back, for the health and welfare of a clogged city.

The rail system in Ireland and the rest of these islands has suffered from lack of forsight, and Cymru/Wales is another place where much of the old tracks were pulled up. Now we are starting to realize what we've lost that we need now, more mass transport and less traffic on the roads...

Round my way, they ripped up the tracks but have had the foresight to tarmac them over as cycle tracks. An excellent idea!!
