Bourree?
This is a nice, enjoyable melody with some interesting turns, but I haven´t got the slightest idea about how it relates to anything that is characteristic of a bourree. Maybe someone can help.

I think the key might be me not having a clue about the subject
The reason I called it a bourree is because I followed the rhythm from two other 3/4 bourrees, one of them here

Although this tune is 32 bars as opposed to the 16 of the other tunes. There are bourrees in 2/4 that have an altogether different rhythm

So, you are Robin Beech and this is your composition and you have chosen to call it a Bourree? (~ à trios temps?)
Whatever someone else might try to do with them, they are not 3/4 but 3/8, emphatically and rhythmically...

Wow - now I'm enlightened - does that mean two beat bourrees are in 2/8 time? And yes - that would be me, and yes I did write it
Our session is on a Wednesday wihich this year was on halloween so we had a call to write halloween tunes. Ended up with 11 new tunes altogether and for a group of people with no background in writing tunes I was amazed at how good they all were.

Bourrées à Deux Temps ~
Well, you have me chuckling, and that's a good thing. I've been in a reflective mood all week, introspective, and thinking about friends of the past and enjoying listening to their music to pull me out of the current blue phase...and you pulled out a good laugh, thanks... Nothing wrong with aspirations, but no, not 2/8, usually written out as 2/4, which is the signature that best represents the rhythmic structure...
"Les Vignerons" was in no way 3/4, looking more like 6/8 when you lay it out that way, which it also isn't, but would be closer to the truth than 3/4...
Like with any music, an understanding is achieved through the music, through listening to it, dancing to it, playing it... That is true if the real intent was to come up with a bourrée or a slip jig. Get intimate with the form first, and give it time.
I think the best compositions are the ones that come after you than the other way around. They seem more natural, and often come as pleasant surprises. "Where did that come from?" But, there's nothing wrong with melody sneaking up on you in a similar fashion that might not have any clear identity at all. The universe seems full of infinite ditties... If you like a thing, exercise it. Maybe you'll have the added pleasure of someone else taking a liking to it. Somewhere down the line it may even evolve, find it's own way past the birth you've given it ~ or it may just be for the moment and disappear... That's O.K. too...

I enjoyed the link. It looks and sounds like a fun place and session... Montreal ~ lovely city, grand folks, absolutely insane drivers. More things should go underground and pedestrian...
