I learned this one from Claus Steinort, a german flute player. And he learned it from the recording Fest-Noz by Pennou Skoulm. It was composed by Jackie Molard.

I'm not sure if I transcribed it correctly as I learned it by ear on a session and not from the recording or dots/abc. Feel free to correct me.

Waltz or is it a jig?

I presume you do know the difference.
Your abc's are written as if you were transposing for a jig. i.e. 2 groups of triplets. If you want it as a waltz/mazurka then abc's should be written in 3 pairs of quavers per bar.
Sounds right as jig so if that is the case amend your abc's to state M: 6/8 and R: Jig.
We all need to know if the written music is as you intend.

I wrote is as a jig first as I learned it as a jig. But as it's named "valse", it must to be a walse. I will change the ABC for your convenience...

waltz I mean. Too many different languages here. ABC grouping corrected.

Now that's kinda funny that you posted this tune. I played it a lot with Claus at numerous sessions in Hannover, in Hamm or at the Tionol in Proitze. I have worked out a fingerstyle arrangement for this tune years ago (no - it's not the same stuff Soig is playing on the recording).

On the album, it is preceded by another waltz, La Valsounette, which I submitted here:

Give Claus a big hug from me if you meet him!

My convenience??

Voodoo, it's not for my convenience but to get clarity of meaning.
If this is to be a waltz then it needs rewriting as a waltz as I have already implied. There would then be two quite distinct tunes.

Nothing wrong with using the word "valse" . If it is part of a dance title then use it without worry.

Sorry, I was a bit upset since there is so many sub-sub-standard ABC notation here on session.org that gets praised to the skies but contains really serious errors or is simply completely unreadable. Wasn't meant as an attack, hetty.

No offence taken rest assured.

Is 6/8 correct then? as the music here stands?

# Posted on October 25th 2007 by hetty

No, it isn't - the sheetmusic isn't updated for some reason...the ABC notation is correct.
