Maguire and Paterson
A lovely waltz I first heard on Sharon Shannon's 'Out the Gap' CD. The abc is via Nottingham Folk Database, which has a good selection of material.

You're quite right - it seems it's the tune for a song he wrote :

Yes but it is bad annoted. All durations have to be multiplied per 2...

- sorry - I tested the ABC first using L:1/4, which gives the required annotation. I slipped up when I put the header into here (I think it's because I'm so used to using L:1/8 for jigs and reels).
RoLuPiN - Just replace L:1/8 with L:1/4 and you'll be OK
Jeremy - any chance of reconverting the ABC Using L:1/4 ?

why is this a walt? it looks more like a 6/8 jig with a dotted eighth+sixteenth rhythm added...

Because it has been written out incorrectly. It is a waltz. Divide each bar in half, change the quavers to crotchets and the note length to 1/4 (as already said) and you begin to get somewhere.

Maguire and Paterson
Some funny things going on here - yes, I wrongly put L:1/8 in the ABC instead of L:1/4 but my barlines were correct (for L:1/4). Alternate barlines have been (automatically?) removed, maybe because of the L:1/8
It's a pity a submitter cannot (?) edit the header as well as the ABC
Anyway, here's the ABC as intended:
X: 1
T: Maguire and Paterson
M: 3/4
L: 1/4
R: waltz
K: Dmaj
