It was Mind yourself of the turkeycock or the turkeycock will bite you and he used to play it in a high key—two strings, so that the noise wouldn't smother the music and it could be heard all over the house. It was played in the key of G. It was a kind of lower down and wouldn't be heard so much, like."

So does that mean he played it in a higher key like "A" using the A and E strings?

Merry-Hielander, I think he meant with double-stops. So like you said, Amaj would make sense for using the A and E string as drones. I tried it out and it sounds good, but seems a little old-timey to me. (or at least what I perceive to be old-timey).

Tunes stick in your head
Denny Mescall's is to be found on Chieftain's no.5 and has obviously fixated itself in my brain since the record first came out. I've played it again & again over the years. I typed in d2B c2d (being the second half of bar 2 in the 'B' music) 'abracadabra'

I was thinking
That the tune is supposed o be in G but because of the noise it was moved up to A where most of the tune would be on the A and E strings. But the quote i shard to follow.
