King's Jig

I think it was 1980, or possibly 1981, when “Ptarmigan” and I made the pilgrimage from Aberdeen to London for the London Irish Festival that year. We’d both met Desi Wilkinson a few years before, and Desi had teamed up with Dundalk fiddler Gerry O’Connor. Gerry played this jig as part of a solo on the Friday night, and I’ve never come across it since, although there is a version published in “Bulmer & Sharpley Vol.4”. 3rd part is very similar to “Ship In Full Sail”, but the 4th part veers off into Bmin – very unusual.
[ I’ll maybe suggest this to PaddyC for the Fleadh ]

Thanks Kenny. This works very well on mandolin. I certainly learn it and see what variations pop out.

And then there's how I remember it...? :-/

Some sources

I knew I had heard this before but couldn't remember where. It is included in one of Breandán Breathnach's collection and, as well as that, it was recorded by Siamsa Gaedheal.
