Maverick Angels

This tune has been requested on this site numerous times (including by me) and seeing as I now have the music I thought I would add it.

It was written by Brendan Ring. It is not really Bm because of all the D#s but it is certainly the closest key for here. You get a wonderful chord (that jars a little) if you just play a B major over the whole first part.

Brendan Ring

Everyone seems to have a myspace these days. Here is Brendan Ring's:

You can hear him playing the tune here on a low D whistle.

Leave the tildes in or take them out? What do you think?

# Posted on June 24th 2007 by No Cause For Alarm

Too late - they stay. I prefer them there anyway.

OK - the midi on here doesn't roll the marked notes anyway so it hasn't made a scrap of difference to that. Just remember to roll them rather than playing them as one long note.

Also remember that all the Ds are sharp.

Thanks for this! It's one of my favourite tunes :)

Yesssss!

Thanks! I've been looking for this tune for ages. I struck a deal with a mate of mine in a session about 6 months ago... I'd teach him a tune he wanted to know and he'd teach me this one, and he never did! Its quite often played in my frequented sessions, and I've tried to learn it but its a bit of a faff, especially for a 'cello, so thanks!

Maverick Angels

Not a problem - I see by your tunebook you are probably in need of a good psychiatrist. I can point you in the direction of one in Glasgow if you want! :-D

Well yes... but in my defence, its not easy to find certain types of tune at uni or in sessions which is why I look on here! I've got a strange taste in tunes but I'm more of a 'cellist than a folkie. Speaking of tunebooks, I've spotted one in yours that I'll have to try out!

You can pretty much ignore my tune book as any indication of what I can play and I was only joking about your 'strange' taste in tunes - I posted Maverick Angels after all!

Anyway, you have my curiosity piqued - which is the tune?

Any chance of you posting 'Kushka's' as well? ;)

# Posted on June 28th 2007 by bdh

Ah, but I don't know it and I don't have the dots. I would struggle to say the least. Don't take me for some fancy pants tune whizz!

I tell you what - you listen to the recording and you post it! ;-)

# Posted on June 28th 2007 by No Cause For Alarm

You not a fancy pants tune whiz? My preconceptions are all shattered now. What shall I do? :-/ Besides, I think you owe us half a dozen of the non-flooked variety before submitting another of flookin' tune like this, don't you? ;-)

I can probably chase up a tabla or a darabuka and maybe even a few of the local belly dancers, I think there's some kind of contest going, and we could doctor this one up just a little for them, eh? Can you get ahold of an oud or a saz? Someone blowing notes on a nai would be cool too...and maybe some of those jingly things, or just a tambourine? But, please, lets not do this sober. I have my reputation to protect. 8-)

! ~ finger cymbals ~ !

# Posted on June 28th 2007 by ceolachan

Don't know what you are on about Ceol - this is a great tune, hence why it was requested by so many folks. And this definately is not a 'flook' tune.

Anyway, it is a perfectly legitimate tune to post. It was written by a real-life honest-to-God Irish man, an Uillean Piper no less (and you can't get more Irish than that!) and I hear it in sessions all the time.

Trust me, keep playing it - it will grow on you :-/

Brendan Ring! ~ and what's wrong with finger cymbals and belly dancers? :-/ I suspect Brendan would appreciate such entertainment...

# Posted on June 28th 2007 by ceolachan

And where did you ken I did na lek it? I'm not so sure I want it to 'grow on me'. I'm already feeling the need to scratch... ;-)
