Shanagolden

Very nice tune IMO which I got off a record by C&I singer Kathy Durkin. It's one of those song tunes that makes a waltz tune with only one part, but I've heard such on albums where such a tune is used as a filler, and I assume they sometimes have their uses in real-life dance sets as well.

I gather the tune is a traditional one.

Usual error in transcription, I'm afraid - last two dotted notes of the tune are meant to be d, not A.

The tune for this was nicked from the popular song The Twelfth of Never. I can't remember the name of the guy who wrote the words but he was quite open about where he got the air.

"The tune for this was nicked from the popular song The Twelfth of Never", which was nicked from the old folk song usually called The Riddle Song.

Shanagolden

The words of 'Shanagolden' were written I think by Kerryman Sean McCarthy and sang by Peggy Sweeny of Listowel among others. As has been stated the tune is an old folk song about a Riddle and was a hit for Johnny Mathis in the fifties as the Twelve of Never. Donny Osmond and Cliff Richard also had minor hits with the Twelfth of Never.
