Cock Your Pistol Charlie

I think this is probably supposed to be played as a single jig in 6/8, but I'd be more inclined to play it as a slide. This is one of the first tunes I ever learnt. I was surprised it wasn't already posted. I always just assumed it was a Scottish tune, but apparently it's Irish. I'm afraid I don't know much more about the tune, other than that it's probably a relative of the Tap Room reel and its variants.

Like the name. Very... um... suggestive

Not on here already?!?!!!

I can't believe this isn't on here already! Why on Earth not? I learnt this about 42 years ago, BEFORE I got interested in trad and stuff.

I must say, Dow, you have posted the classic version of this tune.

Well done for spotting the gap and plugging it.

I'm astonished that there are no recordings listed for this tune. None on Alan Ng's database either - it just says it's in the Roche collection. I always assumed it was a common tune, but obviously it's not as well-known as I thought. Does anyone else apart from me and Ben play this?

This is how common I thought the tune was: I was taught it, aged 8, by a - very - Welsh peripatetic fiddle teacher by the name of John Harries, when I was growing up in South Wales.

It was one of only 2 trad tunes (I think only two ...) that he taught me - 'tother one being Ty Coch y Gaerdydd, as far as I recall ... in F ...
