Planxty Garvin
This tune was the music accompanying Michael Card's "Starkindler". The Tune, "Planxty Garvin", was written by Michael Card himself as what I would guess to be a tribute to Wilbert Garvin, the Uilleann piper who played on the album. I've done my best to put it in a way where it could be played like a session tune, so tell me how me work on the ABC Notation was

LOL! Can't wait to see the sheetmusic for this one.

Ah, you edited out the other 30-odd parts! It's still quite, um, repetitive though, and it sort of leaps about in a cute way, a bit like if you instructed an electronic keyboard to come out with random notes

I just looked up the album you speak of, and it looks fantastic. I hope we see many more hymns submitted to thesession.org. I'm especially looking forward to "Morning Has Broken", as it's one of my favourites. Praise be to the Lord, Amen, c'mon now y'all clap hands.
1. Be Thou My Vision
2. Starkindler
3. Morning Has Broken
4. I Will Arise and Go to Jesus/Musical Priest
5. Let All Things Now Living
6. King of Love My Shepherd Is
7. Jesus, Lover of My Soul
8. I Heard The Voice of Jesus Say/Blarney Pilgrim
9. Holy God, We Praise Thy Name
10. Be Thou My Vision (Reprise)

I think what Dow is trying to say politely is that it doesn't really have a Trad Irish feel to it as tunes go. I'd have to listen to the recording (unlikely) to know if you really got the ABC's right but what it looks like to me is that you have written out the A section and the B section twice and yet put in the repeats making the tune AAAABBBB in terms of sequence.
The huge jumps in the notes of the B section don't seem right to my ear but I didn't hear the recording. Try playing the midi version back to yourself and see if you think it sounds like the recording.

Dow polite
? You are the gentleman Donough...

'c', you didn't see what was originally submitted. I tried to count the number of parts but lost count. It was something like 30! The sheetmusic would have been amazing

Damn, you were being polite... I'm impressed.

Was it SATB? They always short us poor Baritones...

Nope! ~ ~ ~ ~ Uhhhnnnn ~ ~
~ ~ ~ ~
I've only just given this thing a go and I think the poor Amaryllis has just collapsed... So, not one to play for plants...

Not bad as far as their first submission of ABCs, eh?

I can't wait for the abc rendition of "Holy God, We Praise Thy Name". I could sit on a cloud and give it a go on my harp.

Oh my darling, oh my darling, oh my darling Clem ~ en ~ tine...
Hey, that's an idea. I haven't done 4-part harmony in ABC yet and I know a take on "Clementine" to the music for the Welsh hymn "Cwm Rhondda"... That'd be cool, wouldn't it? I could do that thing with ABCs and the lyrics and all the verses, including the funny ones some folks leave out...?

You know we'll probably get in trouble again, the two of us knocking around here. I can just sense someone ready to pounce and accuse us of playground bullying...
You started it...

You're no angel either, 'c'.

I wonder if you can make a smiley with a halo on this site?
At least I once sang in a choir Dow, and hymns too...

"I don't care if it rains or freezes, long as I've got my ~ " Oops!, wrong hymn...

Sorry!
This was my first time to use ABC Notation so I did a REALLY bad job, SORRY! I'm working on redoing it. I tried making the first phrase repeat itself and it repeated itself again, so I'm doing my best to get it right... If I can I'll try adding in the key change, although it pretty much plays the same melody just in Gmajor.

And again...
Ah, when Donough said "The huge jumps in the notes of the B section don't seem right to my ear but I didn't hear the recording." That's because I did the wrong sizes and such for the octaves. This is going by a D whistle scale so would the c natural and notes higher be with a ' next to it like "c' d' e' f' g' a' b' "? It's a nice sounding tune, I just have NO CLUE how to write ABC Notation. Again, SORRY!!! :(

Question
If you edit the ABC, will the sheet music be changed as well? If not, is there a way to delete a tune and put it on again?
# Posted on May 23rd 2007 by Leiouekairna
Nope! ~ possibly the second option, if Jeremy smiles on your request... Otherwise, you could add the corrections in the ABCs, or add them here in the comments... Jeremy has deleted tune submissions in the past, so you have a chance, and all this slagging would go with it. However, be damned sure you have the music right next time. You could always email just about anyone on site here for guidance. I'll send you a copy of a recent intro to ABCs and choices...

Well, for anyone who tries playing this tune, whenever the notes go from high to really really low, keep going higher
This is the right way of playing it:
A Phrase
|: efg agf | efg bgf | dfg aga | bc'b agf |
efg agf |efg bgf | dfg afg | agf e3 :|
B Phrase
|: ega bc'd' | e'2e' d'c'b | efg gab | d2f agf |
ega bcd' | e'2e' d'c'b | c'd'b c'ab | gaf e3 :|

Well it looks like my little voice of reason brought a better outcome in the end. It's nearly playable now if you can get those high notes. I can do it on the mandolin but you wouldn't want to hear my attempt at doing this on the fiddle.

Dear respected Donough, be careful what ye take credit (blame) for...
# Posted on May 24th 2007 by ceolachan
This should be taken an octave lower, Leiouekairna. You have it transcribed for a whistle.... I have the album this is from, it's a great song/tune, but it doesn't really sound like a session tune to me...
