Oh Dear Mother My Toes Are Sore
Oh dear mother my toes are sore
Dancing all over your sandy floor
Behind the door
At one time a popular American rhyme, "which we find attached to 6/8 tunes fairly often..." (from Hill Country Tunes, Instrumental Folk Music of Southwestern Pennsylvania, Bayard, 1944)
The tune in that book, called "Oh Dear Mother My Toes Are Sore", is nothing like what you've submitted.

Schottische / Barndance / Heel & Toe ~ & ~ Sore Toes
Thanks Nigel. I suspect that like with other things, the words travelled and found themselves used for a few different airs. I found it associated with this melody in the Phillips collection and also referenced elsewhere, including online at "The Fiddler's Companion"... I can see how a schottische / barndance might carry the lyrics with reason... Another dance often attached to such melodies is the "Heel & Toe", in its many guises...
