"David's Hornpipe" ~ by Robert Whinham
This is for Alex Boydell, aologies Alex that I was semi-conscious and did not get the missing measure and corrections to you in time... I'm guessing we were both either semi-conscious or in need of reading glasses. This is the adulterated version first. I'll be adding more...

"Remember Me: The Fiddle Music of Robert Whinham"
Compiled and edited by Graham Dixon
Wallace Music, 1995
ISBN: 0-9511572-1-3
This is a great collection ~ WITH PICTURE!
No, really, great scholarship too, highly recommended. I just wish Graham's other works were still available, like the James Hill collection, sigh!

Here are the notes from beneath that transcription ~
In the original manuscript the following verse appears beneath the tune:
"David with his harp play'd psalms
To win the Lord into good terms
But had he play'd this merry strain
He'd pleas'd the Lord as well again."

Further notes from the book ~
An unattributed version of this tune appears in JD* where it is called 'Davie's Hornpipe'. That version of the tune has a number of differences in detail ~ " to the transcription given in the book, and Graham Dixon gives these few differences:
In bars 1 & 5 of the A-part ~
~ | GFGD (3EFG (3DEF | ~
In bars 3 & 7 of the A-part the G is natural, not sharp (^g)...
The lead in from the A-part to the B-part is also different ~

~ unadulterated and minus the swing & most triplets...& with a few other possibilities...
"David's Hornpipe" ~ mostly based on the transcription in the book /
"Davie's Hornpipe" ~ those differences worked into bars 5 & 7 & the lead-in for the B-part...

ROBERT WHINHAM WEEK ~ common then, who's next?
I can't enter another one just yet, even if it were Alex who started this... See if you've a favourite Whinham tune to add over the next week? I'll be back...

I think Kathryn Tickell's recorded this one.

Do you play...
the second G in bar seven of the A part sharp or natural? The sharp sounds unnatural there to me. (Sorry for the pun-isment!)

"The sharp sounds unnatural there to me." ~ muspc
I almost thought I was in another tune... I like the pun... I've just checked the other sources at hand ~ they all have it as #... That said, if you are happier with the natural, I see no reason why you couldn't take it that way... There is a Whinham tune where all the transcripts I've seen have it natural, but I take it sharp, just that one time in the whole tune, and a 'g' too...

DAMN! Apologies ~ I missed that second 'g'... You are absolutely right. It is natural...
The correction has been made in the ABC's...

ROBERT WHINHAM WEEK?! ~ anyone? ~
~ come on ~ Dow,? Nigel?, Nicholas?, Alex?, Maryland Highlander?, anyone?
Out of respect for a request, 'Fitchett Week' has been delayed till May...
'muspc', your comment on the 'unnatural' came as I was messing with a few different tunes, and guess what, =G & G#, =g & g# were part of that, so I was not fully conscious, but that isn't unusual for me. As well, I sometimes play that beat of that measure simply f>a... All I had to do was stop, slow down, and go check this transcription...
I now have another tune to make sense of, by request, but as played by a favourite musician, so lots of joy there mixed in with the frustration of trying to get their take on it and transcribe it into something reasonable...
