Planxty Nick

I composed this tune, and can't recall how or when but not very long ago.

There's a bit of a Carolan feel in there, for some reason, so I wanted to call it Planxty something. Someone said, "Call it Planxty Nick", when I was havering and had to call it something quickly, so I did. (If she'd bought me a drink, I might have called the tune after her instead, but I would not have had the skill to amplify it with the customary extempore verses, let alone twangle away on the harp at the same time, my nails happening to be less than two inches long: so it's probably as well I didn't.)

I'd play this somewhat more briskly than the midi.

I've changed a note, in one bar of the second part: |g2 d2 g2|,

to: |g2 B2 g2|

Sorry Nicholas, but just a bit disappointed. It isn't the usual thing to 'Planxty' yourself, and I would have expected you knew that? It is a kind of dedication or appreciation to and for someone else, or that is its history up till now... :-/

Planxty Nick

I knw, I know, I know, Ceolachan. My reasons burble away at the top of the page. Thanks for your 'giving examples' email, btw!
But yes, I might change the name.

Good, I feel better already... ;-)

Planxty Nick Taverner

I've decided to call it after someone I worked with on an archaeological dig back in 1982. This keeps the "Nick" but calls it after someone other than myself, which really isn't on for a Planxty.

The dig was near Falkirk, Scotland, in cold March weather. The others including Nick were veggies, so we ate accordingly. But with that weather I needed more, so went around stuffing my face with haggises and cream buns between finishing work and the veggie meal. Had deep-fried Mars bars been available, I'd gladly have tucked into them.

Hey, and a story too. I like that! ;-)
