Rambles of Spring
Is this what you are looking for, wodeninjun? It's not a reel or fiddle tune, for that matter, but a song by Tommy Makem. Never heard the original so don't know what key it should be in (if, indeed, a song has to be in any particular key) or if the tune is correct.
This is how my good mate Adam sings it, accompanying himself on his long neck banjo.

Rambles Of Spring
DonaldK many thanks indeed this is what I am after. I am still unsure of myself when I work a tune out by ear. I love this song it explains part of what I feel for and about our music. I will play it on my short scale tenor.
I was at a session the other night and did my best to join in with an old lad singing Dirty Old Town and was rewarded with his copy of the words and a request that I come to the next session and play along when he sang. Great encouragment for a beginner. One day maybe I will be the old lad and I'd like that to be my song. Thanks again.
