Neighbours was so much better back in the day. I didn't know she wrote tunes as well as bubble gum pop.

"Kiley's Reel" / "Hang Fire"
This one is in "Ryan's Mammoth Collection" and "Cole's 1000 Fiddle Tunes" as well as in the repertoire of Don Messer, Canadian fiddler extrordinair, and consequently in the fiddling traditions of the Canadian Maritimes... It is also in volume 2 of "Kerr's Merry Melodies"... It seems to get the 2/4 treatment in the older transcriptions, which is far too dense and dark for my tastes...

"‘Hang fire’ means ‘hold your fire,’ or ‘wait a minute’. Labelled a "jig" in Ryan's / Cole's, meaning a type of old time banjo tune rather than the traditional Irish 6/8 jig; Kerr calls it a clog dance."
