"The Tyrone March"
This is a great quirky tune. I only wish I had more history to give you for it. I'm hoping someone else can add that and educate me further on this. I haven't tried to dance to it yet, or to play it for dancers ~ it moves between 4/4 and 3/4 measures, which could be interesting on the dance floor. Most marches are straight forward and work just fine for dance, having your usual phrase / bar counts ~ 2, 4, 8, 16, 32... I hope I did a decent job of transcribing this and making it 'basic'. I've taken it from a couple of unclear taped sources as well as a recording of Desi Wilkinson playing it. On his recording "The Three Piece Flute" he plays it in C Mixolydian (one flat = Bb), on F-bagpipes...

Two questions...
Thanks for posting this interesting tune! How fast it was played in your three sources? Also, are there strong down-beats in the alternating 3/4 - 4/4 measures?

T'was me
I’ve only come across this tune twice, once on Desi’s “Three-Piece Flute”, and last April when Harry Bradley taught it to the class at Hammy’s flute-meeting in Ballyvourney. It is an unusual tune and I’ve always liked it. There is a 4-part 4/4 march on the Scottish bagpipes called “The Hills Of Gareloch” which is very similar, but I’ve no idea which came first. I seem to remember Desi had it labelled as “Tyrone Ditches”, but would have to check on that.
