The Barber's Pole

A tune by James Hill, the Scots-born musician who became famous for his playing and composition of fiddle tunes on Tyneside in the first half of the c19. At least it's played in a very lovely manner on the album "Fiddlers' Fancy", which I assume consists entirely of Hill tunes, played by Tom McConville and others.
Less acrobatic than some of Hill's tunes but complicated enough to be interesting, this tune is played quite slowly on the album, rather as if it were a Carolan piece - an analogy reinforced by the first bar being identical to that of Carolan's Draught.
I assume, maybe wrongly, this tune was / is a hornpipe. It deserves to be better known.
