Unha Noite No Santo Cristo

This is a march from the album "The Given Note" by Liam O'flynn. I believe it is a Galician tune and is sometimes called Alborada Sunrise.
Liam does a great job of this tune on the album, and plays with a Spanish bagpipe player the 2nd time through.

The Galician bagpipes are playd by Xosé V. Ferreirós and Nando Casal from Milladoiro, the most famous Galician band.
BTW it might not be very popular in the area to call the bagpipes Spanish ;-)

Alborada da Lanzada

The two names I know for this tune are "Alborada Unha noite no Santo Cristo" (One night at the Saint Christ) and "Alborada da Lanzada".
A Lanzada is one of the best beaches in Galiza (maybe the best one) with several km of length, altlantic cold sea water, very fine sand, etc. It is in the province of Pontevedra, in the Rias Baixas and close to the island of A Toxa.
There is a very old tradition that is when a woman wants to get pregnant she must take nine waves in this beach.
Anyway the sort of tune is "alborada" that mean sunrise. This kind of tunes is commonly played at the beginning of the day and the dances.
This alborada was the first one that I learned 25 years ago and I played it at the begining of the parades with the pipers group "A Folla Revirada" (The turned over leaf).
Liam O´Flynn plays another galician alborada in his album "The Piper's Call" but called there "Marcha de Lousame", which is picked up in a very old galician tunebook.
