"The Curlews" ~ as a jig
When I first recieved Josephine Keegan's dots for her reel "The Curlews", viewed from a distance, and with it packed tight on an A4, eight measures to a line, I saw 'jig'. Then I looked closer and saw it was her reel... But the jig didn't shake out of me. So, this is basically what I first saw and my brain started to process ~ a jig in her tune "The Curlews" (Mountains/'hills' in Leitrim) ~ "from a distance"!

It works quite well doesn't it? I would be inclined to play a low C# as the 1st note of bar 4, 2nd part, so that the melody flows a little better. Presumably you were trying it out on one of your many whistles were you? Are you missing the one I stole off you yet?

Nice idea, ceol, but I would change a couple of things in the first part thusly:
|: e | fBB FBB | fec a2e | c/d/ed cAA | EAc afe |
fBB FBB | fec a2 f | g2 e f2 e | dB^A B2 :|
This is one of my favorite reels, I'll try it as a jig at the next session and see if I get a rise out of anyone's eyebrows.

I like your 1st part PB. I'd probably smooth the whole thing out a bit and play it like this:
X: 1
T: Curlews, The
M: 6/8
L: 1/8
R: jig
K: Bmin

I was just saying the same, I've changed bar 2 of the A-part from how I had it, | fec age | ~ to ~ | fec a2 e | ~ which I think fits better with what happens in bar 6. I had also considered alternates for bar 3, as I do find myself moving in to other options outside the original reel ~
~ | EAc age | ~ or ~ | EAc afe | ~ or ~ | EAc a2 e | ~ or ~ | E2 c aga | ~

Damn, Dow's in on the act...

Yeah, I was being conservative with the 'c', but, yes, I actually prefer the octave lower for bar 4 of the B-part, as in the original reel. Here are some other ways to take that one measure:
~ | cEA c/d/ec | ~ or ~ | C2 A cec | ~ or ~ | cEA c2 e | ~ or ~ | C2 A c/d/ec | ~

I know, those 4 rolls together are way over the top
Nice D crans in the 2nd part though, don't you think?
# Posted on February 15th 2007 by Dow
What a kick... Yeah, I like the crans. But you know me, to be used once in awhile, maybe even once through roll and cran mad, and then followed by once through without one damned roll or cran in the lot... I enjoyed playing that one...

Especially the ~C3...

But I'm worried ~ does this mean I now need reading glasses?
# Posted on February 15th 2007 by ceolachan
Sounds great, C!

It is a beautiful melody, thank you Josephine Keegan...
# Posted on February 15th 2007 by ceolachan
Well done C a fantastic jig.
# Posted on February 16th 2007 by JACKB
His name's not C, it's 'c'.
# Posted on February 16th 2007 by Dow
Or maybe 'c' ~ with a meaningless squiggle after it.
# Posted on February 16th 2007 by Dow
I think he would answer to this: "<"
# Posted on February 16th 2007 by Phantom Button
Yeah guys, I like that PB ~ "<" ~ or ">" ~ depending on my mood, if I'm irritable and have a tendency to snap...
# Posted on February 16th 2007 by ceolachan
~ and the ol' 'c' if I'm feeling relaxed and well rounded, and 'C' if I'm in a full-of-myself strut...
# Posted on February 16th 2007 by ceolachan
or 'S' if you annoyed someone so much that they picked you up and strangled you
