Shouldn't that be "Haryland Mighlander"? Are we going through a change of life?

This tune

I used to live in a tiny town called Swanton in the shadows of Backbone Mountain. (Maryland/WV area of US) At one time there were many fiddlers there... up until the 1960's then the old tradition was die-ing out. I was browsing the internet to see if anyone had ever documented this area's tradition and found this neat old tune that has nothing to do with that area directly. (Besides the Name) However it does remind me of different tunes from the region in it's structure.

Asterisks

What do the asterisks represent?

Floating possibilities, the Ides of March, beware...

Fairy lights * * * * * * * * *

The Floating Asterisks

They represent the parts of the tune where you lift your head, turn to the person playing beside you and get that special little twinkle in your eye.

Alternately they could be the accompaniment placement of rude body sounds...
