Miss Hamilton

The best of the best, how lucky we are that some of these old tunes still exist. This one is over three hundred years old but sounds as good today as it did then. What can I say this the only tune of Cornelius Lyons that survives. There is a deep spirituality in this tune.

Yes JACKB, it's one of my favourites too, although I, like yourself I'm sure, of course play it at a lot slower pace than it comes flying out at you here!

Composed while he was in the service of Lord Antrim I believe, but then Cornelius wasn't a County Antrim man born & bred, so is this a Co Antrim tune, or what, I wonder?

Who cares eh? ..... it's just a beautiful tune - good onya Corne!

"Miss Hamilton" ~ March ~ Cornelius Lyons

This can be played without repeats, AB, or with them, AABB, as notated here and by Edward Bunting. Edward Bunting attributes the composition of this march to Cornelius Lyons, 1680-1750, harper to the Earl of Antrim and friend of Turlough O’Carolan, 1670-1738.

Miss Hamilton

I love this tune too! Michael O'Sullivan does a mighty version on the harpsichord, and it's also recorded using a derivative of the dulcimer (John Molineux LP 'Douce-Amère' & CD) . Any other 'non-dance' versions around?
