Fletch Taylor

I wrote this tune on the fiddle while inspired by Tina Lech's fiddle style. She recorded it on my CD _Dead_String_Rhythm_(2002) with John McGann (octave mandolin), though the original recoding was played by Patrick Mangan (fiddle), Eliot Grasso (pipes), Paddy League (percussion), and myself (acoustic guitar) on John Whelan's _Celtic_Fire_ CD (Narada/Virgin 2001). Both versions can be heard on the iTunes store. Btw, the tune was named after a guy who taught me how to rock-climb when I was in high school.

I play a triplet on every low E, as well as loads of cuts on the high f and the B. Tina's rendition features loads of rolls (ironically, I wasn't able to capture those in my pastiche of her playing:-).

3/2? 12/8?

Hope I'm not being pedantic but your 3/2 is written in 12/8. are you sure about your time signature. Emphasis here is on 4 main beats to the bar in triplets whereas 3/2 will have 3 main beats to the bar. I have not looked at the itunes store nor played the midi because for me the music tells me what to do when it is presented to me to read.

As a 3/2

That was my initial response from looking at the dots. Having looked further and played it as a 3/2 I feel that you need twice as many bars and using crotchets and minims as your main notation.

Your ABC gives you 4 groups of triplets per bar. I would have written:-
M: 3/2
L: 1/4
af fe d2 | fe dB BA | dB BA F2 | BA FE E2 | etc.
So that your first 2 bars become 4 bars with 3 main beats in each bar, each beat having the value of 2 crotchets or one minim.
Hope that is of some help.
I cold have gone down the road of:
L: 1/8
affe d2fe dBBA | dBBA F2BA FEE2 |
perhaps that is what you intended but I have not played that yet.
That will still give you the 3 main beats to the bar.
