Nah, that ain't it... The first part of this is definitely something I already know, but I like this tune just the same, whatever derivatives it might come from... I found myself going from it into the above tune, which only starts the same way, so maybe they'd make a nice set together?

What were you feeding these pidgeons anyway? I can't accept a D conclusion, it just has to be an E, pleeease...but maybe that's the other tune calling me-eee-e-eee-e...

Only 1 recording of the tune (and I have it..lol). Where did you get it from Kenny.

Do you know who the composer of this pastiche is Paddy?

# Posted on December 24th 2006 by ceolachan

No idea I'm afraid. The album had no sleeve notes. It's in the Breathnach Collection Vol. 4 though. He has James Madigan as the source.

"IV"! ~ that figures, it's actually here open besides this desk, staring at me know, where it has been for the last week or so... :-/

Origin of "Pigeons"

This came from the "Outlet" LP "Ar Leithidi", which was mainly the O'Brien family from Dublin, all the youngsters, including Mick and Donncha would hardly have been in their teens. This was a flute-solo by Sligo man Dan O'Healy, a guest on the record. I hadn't come across the tune before and thought it worth posting. The album PaddyC has is mainly an "Outlet" compilation, and the track is the same.
I'll post the LP in "Recordings" in the next week.

Outlet has been responsible for issueing some great recordings. I keep hoping that someone will reissue those efforts...

Another version from Kenny

Kenny says: "I found this [setting] on a tape from the Willie Clancy week in 1986. Clodach [Nic Ruairi] is a flute player from Derry who was in the same flute class as me that year. She was a member of the 80' all-women "supergroup" "Macalla", and was one of the players featured on the tribute album for Frankie Kennedy. She played this reel in a session with her sister Orla on fiddle and Dermot Byrne on accordion.
