"Dandy Bash" ~ another gem by Paddy O'Brien ~ but not by thebook

I've had the pleasure of dancing to Paddy's music and learning a few tunes from him, which have changed over time, or may have been in the process when I learned them. I don't remember the man as one of those who was adamant that anything was set in concrete. However, here is another way to end this without a second ending:

B-part, measures 5 - 8:
~ | dgg ge/f/g | eaf g2 e | d2 B AGE | GBA G- :|

& that 'by-the-book':
~ | d2 g gfg | eaf g2 e | d2 B AGE | D3 D2 :|

"Dandy Bash" ~ some differences with the 'by-the-book' version

K: G Major
A-part
|: D |
GFG EDE | ~ ~ | ~ ~ | E2 A AGE |
GFG EDE | ~ ~ | ~ ~ | ~ ~ | G3 G2 :|
|: B |
~ ~ | ~ ~ | e2 A ABd | ~ ~ |
& the last 4 bars as given previously...
There isn't a first and second ending 'by-the-book'...

A small difference, A-part, third bar, I usually play:

~ | eAA BAA | ~ or ~ | e2 A B2 A |
~ or any combination of those... ;-)

'c's eyes aren't as good as they once were, and so his line of abc above is a little off the mark (|d2B AGE|D3 D2|). Out of the kindness of my heart, I will help him out, and while I'm at it I might as well transcribe the whole thing since 'c' has decided to be lazy and only provide us with a bunch of squiggles, unconvertible into sheetmusic via software :-)

This is how the composer wrote it and it's how it's played in our session, but good on ya 'c' for putting your own stamp on it, and very nice too.

Not altogether true Dow, that's how it was given in the book. Paddy was no prude and had his own ways (note the plural) with the music, including his own compositions... ;-)

Just checked over it all... Did you leave your reading glasses at work again Dow? With regards to that ending and your claim I was "off the mark", in other words: ~ | d2 B AGE | G3 G2 :| ~ Find your glasses, put them on, the lenses, those round glass things, go in front of your eyes, and check out the first comment above, that is if you remember how to scroll? :-/

Alright, alright, alright ~ MEA CULPA!!! ~ your eyes are younger!

You were right. I can see how my weirdly wired brain would do that, mixing up Gs and Ds... The book ~ BY-THE-BOOK ~ ends as the original transcription here, with G's...

YOU WERE RIGHT DOW! ~

My 1st comment:
~ | d2 g gfg | eaf g2 e | d2 B AGE | D3 D2 :| (the D's were a lapse!)

Dow / Mark & The Book:
~ | d2 g gfg | eaf g2 e | d2 B AGE | G3 G2 :| (the G's are correct...)

You know I'm always right, 'c' ;-) Saying that, I think I might like it better with the D's!

Maybe we should have a competition to see who's the most arrogant between the 2 of us, 'c'. I reckon I'd win easily :-D

# Posted on January 7th 2007 by Dow

Now for a true competition we'd have to open this up... Somehow I see the two of us hiding under the table at that session, getting soused and doing our damnedest not to make any sound and be discovered. Actually, maybe a Karaoke booth in Tokyo, and we could drag slainte in and lock the door, and not forgetting some of that Japanese single malt I've heard about but never had... And a bottle of that stuff I have had with all the animal genitalia in it. Whew that stuff was powerful... ;-)

Play this at local session as Paddy OBrien set: this followed by The Curragh and finishing with Humours of Ennistymon which I presume is not his.
