Was just looking up details of an old record I have of the Battlefield Band when this tune came to mind. I noticed that a different version is already posted which is not the one on the LP so I thought I'd post the tune I'm familiar with.

Good man

You're right Conan - it's not a different version, the other one's wrong, as I said at the time. Great jig, but tricky on flute or whistle.

Actually it's quite easy on the accordion; it's the high to low A jump that probably makes it tricky on flute.

I'll submit Joe Mcgann's fiddle too if I can remember it; the recording is long gone. If I'm right it's another 4 part tune. Strathspey?

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of Stand Easy? My LP is scratched to bits... it's a classic though.

It's a hornpipe, Conan. I can maybe help with the recording - I'll be in touch.

Thanks Kenny!

I thought it might be a Strathspey as BB play it "dotted", if you know what I mean. However, with a name like Joe McGann's fiddle, it was always likely to be a hornpipe.

John Center was a well-known professional piper and highly-respected maker of bagpipes, as well as a professional photographer. When he emigrated for Australia in 1908, his pipemaking business in Edinburgh was taken over by James Robertson. There is photo of Center on the cover of the piping times of July 2006, and Google will turn up another one.

4th part is wrong, Conan - should be:
