"Malltraeth"

For those that may have thought I'd lost my way, after some discussion and questions I selected a handful of Welsh tunes to add to TheSesh, around 20, and yes, they have been coming one after the other, but I assure you, they are limited. I looked for a sample, different tune forms, and I also looked for things that might fit, like 32 bar waltzes, as an example...

This particular waltz was part of a discussion. This is one we used to play with two other Welsh waltzes ~ "Ffarwel i'r Marian" & "Merch Megan", and one I'd promised someone I'd post. So here they all are...

"Dydd Dewi Sant" / "St. David's Day" ~ March 1st...

Now you've a choice of things to bring out for St. David's Day with the leeks and daffodils...though I hope some of you will find something to exercise more than just one day a year... As 32 bar waltzes they work fine for most formation waltz dances, such as waltz quadrilles and the various cotillons and country dances that ask for that kind of measure in a waltz...

"Malltraeth" ( treath = beach )

This is a geographic placename, a village, a beach (& naturist area), golden sands and dunes, a bay, a nature reserve and an SSSI marsh and the Cefni Estuary...not forgetting its menhir (standing stone)... Northwest Cymru / Wales, the Southwest of Ynys (= inis) Môn / Anglesey Island...with views of Snowdonia and the Lleyn Peninsula... It is near Newborough Warren, more dunes and the whole is a great draw for bird watchers, naturalists and naturists... :-)

Malltraeth ~ "Mah - ll - try - th" The 'll' is what some call a 'hiss', make the letter 'L' with your tongue, and then without voicing it, not using your vocal chords, blow air out the sides of your tongue, or either side, making a kind of 'sh' sound just from the air... The 'th' is unvoiced as well, as in 'bath' & 'thermometer'...

& not forgetting the Afon (river) Cefni... Here are just a few links:

Mall = blasted, and that part of the country can be, like horizontal rain...

There must be a special signal for the naturists to let them know when it's O.K., either that or they have Rhino skin...

Hey, come to think of it, last time we stumbled onto one of those beaches quite of few of them did seem to have the skin of a Rhino...
