"Abaty Llantoni" / "Llanthony (pronounced 'Llantony') Abbey"
Abaty = Abbey ~ "aa" - "bat" - "ee"
WHEW!)
Llantoni = "Ll" - "ann" - "tony"
( 'll', we're there again, it's a kind of 'sh' hissing, the tip of the tongue against the hard ledge behind the upper teeth, you blow and the air escapes out both sides, or the one or the other, producing a kind of 'L' hiss. Another way, say 'L', which is voiced, now keep the tip of the tongue there and just blow without using your vocal chords, 'unvoiced'... A kind of 'shhhh', but related to the 'L'...

"Abaty Llantoni" / "Llanthony Abbey"
~ Gwent, mid-Wales, nine miles northeast of Abergavenny in the Black Mountains area of the Brecon Beacons National Park, South Wales...

"Llanthony Priory and alongside it St David's Church are set deep in the Vale of Ewyas. This is a wonderfully secluded and peacefully beautiful place in the Black Mountains. ~ "Llan" is the working place of a saint, and tradition has it that the Welsh patron saint, St David, lived in this valley for a while in the 6th century."

Llanthony Abbey

"Among the Black Mountains on the Welsh/English border in eastern Wales lies the almost secluded valley of Llanthony. Even today it is a serene and beautiful place, so it is of little wonder that Augustinian Cannons chose to found their community in what was then a wild and lonely place. ~ "

I have this basic take on it in several different books, including a version with little difference in:
"Tro Llaw: A Collection of 200 Welsh Hornpipes from the National Library of Wales"
Collected, edited and arranged by Robin Huw Bowen
Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru, National Library of Wales, 1987

I wonder if they say it the same way? ~ they being tied to Wales historically and geographically, and my family roots being there...

Yes, they do! ~ "It is today called Llanthony (pronounced 'Lantony') ~ "

Except for the 'LL'...
