"Polca Trecynon" / "The Trecynon Polka" ~ ?
Many of the tunes taken under the wing of ‘Welsh’ have an existence beyond that defining border. I’m sure I’ve bumped into this one elsewhere but the answers haven’t come as yet. I think I’ve seen it in an early North American collection, or heard it on a recording…and I’m sure there is also an Irish take on it, or ‘relative’… Quite a few of the tunes in old Welsh collections have origins elsewhere. Musicians traveled and forgetting the name of a tune wasn’t any less common in the past than now, maybe worse, since they didn’t have as much in print or online…
This is for Hetty and Dafydd, another 'polca / polka'...since they are responsible for my having a very restless night with me and the Bishop having it out and poor 'Ms.' Dolland getting the worst end of it, literally ~ being 'goosed'... I ended up taking things as many ways as possible, and ended up with 'Ms.' Dolland doing cartwheels in my head and ringing there through to this afternoon, when I purged her for a moment with Tom Jones 'Reload' album turned up loud...
As you can see, I'm still being lazy today, leaving this open for the moment to see if Hetty or Slainte or Nox or someone else will find the connective tissues to other relations and names here and elsewhere... I will come back to it, but I still can't get the fat Bishop trying to do a rant with the lithe 'Ms.' Dolland, who kept stepping on his feet since she'd misplaced her specs...

Polca = Polka (same pronunciation)
Trecynon = a placename, a village in 'The Rhondda', South Wales, 'The Valleys'

This melody is another one whose familiarity is niggling away inside. I haven't yet had the specific associations pop into my head, maybe the restless night has made it even more uncooperative than usual today. I'm hoping someone will recognize this and have more information on it, other names. In the meantime I'll keep knocking my head against the screen in an attempt to jog the thought processes into movement again... Whew! ~ I need a good stiff drink. I wonder if there is any of that lovely aged Cuban rum in the house, maybe a twist on a Whisky Mac, only with rum and a strong ginger wine like 'Crabbies' ~ and some golden pineapple juice?

"Polca Trecynon" / "The Trecynon Polka" X 2 & keys G/D & D/A
The key signature changes from G to D Major in the first take and D to A Major in the second... I missed that ^c in the first instance, B-part ~ bar 7, the correction has been made in the ABCs...

Some of these Welsh tunes seem to go into two or for that matter three keys rather more readily than tunes from the other British / Irish traditions though I can think of some (The City Of Savannah, The Pinch Of Snuff, The Bluebell Polka, e.g.).
maryland highlander put in a post under the Welsh Cuckoo's Nest tune asking if Welsh stuff was like Northumbrian. I think it's very different, but am trying to put my finger on why...
