I co-composed this tune in Meitheal '06 with my composition class. James.

I have a clip of a whistle player playing a tune called "The Firehose Reel" but it's very different from this. How did the name come about?

There is a girl that plays in the session on Friday nights who was playing a tune in D minor (or some weird key) and I asked her where she got it. She said "A group of us composed at Meitheal this year". I wonder was it this one.

Paddy C is the clip from http://www.tinwhistletunes.com/clipssnip/reels.html ?
If so it's my posting. I thought Fire Hose Reel was a great name for a tune.
There's actually another published FHReel by Evan Chambers which I only recently found out about. So not even the name was original. Here's my story anyway. from the above site.
Mark writes, "Here's a reel that for a good while I thought I wrote. The opening bars came to me not from inspiration but as a fragment of "Off in the Morning" from the murky recesses of my memory. Anyway the tune works pretty well even if it's not completely original. Sindt D. I had the name years before from a session at the Australian National Folk Festival in about ' 92. My mate Johnny May asked did I know the name of a tune that was being played and I pointed to the ubiquitous red "Fire Hose Reel" cabinet above the players. It was obviously an automatic tune recognition machine from way back then. Hey who says we're backward in Australia?"

Ok, thanks Mark. The clip there, is indeed the one I am referring to but I thought it sounded a little different than the abc. Obviously not.
