William's Return
I got recorded this tune from 3 whistle players at a session last Friday in the Culthurlann na hEireann in Monkstown. A certain one of them had nagged me to learn it for a long time but with no recording of the tune, I couldn't until I got a lend of an MP3 Dictaphone for last Friday. So I stuck it on the computer and learnt this lovely little tune.
The source they have for the tune is their flute teacher Gerry (Gerry O'Donnell I think). Apparently he has a good repertoire of rare tunes and this one, I've never heard before.
It sounds like it could be quite an old tune probably pre-dating the 20th and more. But that's just my guess.
As for the layout of the tune, well, its a little strange. The rests are there for a reason. Those quaver notes followed by rests are played as you'll hear them on the abc so a wind instrument would require stopping breath flow and on stringed instruments just deaden the note quickly. The structure doesn't seem to be 6/8 all the way as there are some bar in 7/8 and this messes up the abc file and I cannot get around so if you have any suggestions, tell me and I'll try and amend it. That's how the tune goes anyway.
It seems to be more suited to whistle/flute than banjo. The low B to high b isn't the easiest jump but shouldn't take long to get the hang of anyway.
Enjoy the tune!

Williams return .Jig
This tune is well known in Scotland and Donegal as"Bundle and go".I think this title has been applied to a few other jigs too. I know it as a piping march.

Bundle and Go
There's a recording of this tune on a CD called Songs of Seduction, which I think has something to do with the Alan Lomax series. It's a great version and worth tracking down. It's introduced as a pipe-march.

Bundle and Go
You can listen to Ciarán Ó Maonaigh and Aidan O'Donnell's amazing fiddle duet playing of this jig on their MySpace page: http://www.myspace.com/fidilcd Their new recording is now at the top of my wish list.
