Aly's

The rhythm is slightly different then the version I learned, probably because I don't understand ABC format and had someone else transcribe the tune. I learned it from the album "Sliabh Notes," were it is played somewhat less...abruptly, might be the word.

"Aly's Waltz" ~ composed and copyrighted by Terry Rasmussen

"Aly" as in Aly Bain ~ composed by Terry Rasmussen of Colorado, inspiration from attending a fiddle camp in California and as a student of Aly Bain's, attending his workshops...

"Aly's Waltz" ~ Key of G on the "Sliabh Notes" album I've got

While the tune appears to have been written in the key of F Major, the lads on the "Sliabh Notes" album play it in a more accessible key for all, G Major. Also, they have some nice rhythmic touches in their playing, lovely stuff ~ AND ~ as usually played, in my ears anyway ~ IT IS SWUNG!

NOTE: Concering Giving Credit ~ composer & source of transcript

The transcription given here is a direct copy, cut and paste, from the several available on the Internet, but contributor has not credited that source, or given the composer information for this lovely waltz. On the first part, all the versions I've found of it in the key of F Major are all copies of some original, not one difference in note or rhythm, but even so, the cut-and-paste should have been credited, which ever pirated copy of ABC's was used.

More important, the composer should have been credited, and maybe something about the origins and name. Even more important ~ the composer should have been asked, if at all possible, before posting this ~ as a basic courtesy...

Aly's Waltz

Thanks for the transcription, c. Reminded me to go back and listen to the Sliabh Notes Cd again. A lovely tune - and hard to get the ABC to sound right!

Sorry spin and anyone else who came across this, I missed that accidental... Here it all is again with the headers, and then the same again in F, unchanged except for minor transcript adjustments to a few bars ~

Just stumbled on this--what a beautiful waltz! I like it in F on fiddle. Thanks "c" for doing the essential work on this--much appreciated.

"A Waltz for Aly" / "Aly's Waltz" ~ to repeat |::| or not

While some folks do the repeats, I find it more useful, for dance, not to do the repeats and to play this as a 32 bar tune rather than 64 bars, AB instead of AABB...
