The Honeycomb

"Well I went to see the widow and the widow wasn't home, so I went to see her daughter and she gave me honeycomb." So goes the lyric to this tune that was once popular in the mountains around Cumberland Maryland and Pennsylvania.

It is definitely a version of the English tune called "Push about the Jorum." I always thought that the Irish got a hold of it and made "Blackberry Blossom." (Reverse the parts.) Or maybe the English got a hold of Blackberry Blossom and made this peppy little tune. Whatever its true history may be, I suspect that it came from Lowland Scotland or SOuthern England or even Ulster like so many of the tunes I collect.

Ofcouse with all of my submissions this is but one bare bones version of the melody... Lots of nice triplets will fall into place once you learn the tune...I vary it and maybe it shouldve been in 2/4...

THERE!

I listened to the MIDI and that nice little pause without the pickup notes is not bad... I'm glad I salvaged this tune thanks to Dow... TRY IT! ITS FUN!!!!!!

one last thing... on the second parts especially on fiddle... sharp the c's a little for a nice "neutral" tone it makes the tune "talk" a little bit.

The z note

The z note in the ABC's is essential.
